What we've done

The story so far

A living record of what this Village has made together. It grows as the week does.

Thursday, September 10 · Grow

Seven farms. Seven farmers. One boat. And a whole lot of helping, loving hands.

The Mutual Aid & Brigade brought Summit participants alongside farmers and growers across St. Thomas and St. John — a shared day of work, learning, relationship, and mutual aid. We began this Summit with our hands in the ground rather than in a conference room.

The farms that hosted us

  • Taitu Farm
  • Camp Umoja
  • Paradise Farms
  • Meder Mogzit Family Farm
  • Mother of Nature Farm
  • Organic West Farm
  • Gifft Hill Community Garden

Giving thanks

To our Language Justice Crew. To our Mutual Aid & Brigade Team. To the farmers who opened their land to us. And to every hand, chef, runner, volunteer and guest who made the day possible — we see you.

Giving thanks for our Welcome Dinner host

We Grow Food, Inc.

Bordeaux Farmers' Market

Thank you for hosting us — a vegan dinner with history and purpose.

As we think about food, it matters that we think about health, and about the sustainability of how we eat. How we eat now reflects back on how our ancestors ate.

And there were drummers. There was Bamboula. Thank you for the drum, the dance, and the history class as we ate.

Onsite help — Registration & Concierge Desk

At UVI, this is the central place for participant support: directions, the Summit Lounge, language support, mobility and access needs, photography preferences, and help navigating the days.

Urgent

Come to the Registration & Concierge Desk or find a member of Summit staff. If you cannot reach the desk, text or call Laurel.

Care

Food, language, access and care

Tap any of these to open it.

Food & water

Every meal is covered. Friday and Saturday, a light breakfast is served at UVI from 8:00 to 9:00, alongside registration — so you don't need to eat before you board. Lunch is provided on our working days, and dinner each evening.

Breakfast is light. If you know you need something more substantial in the morning, please plan accordingly.

Water stations are available throughout Summit activities. Bring a refillable water bottle and keep it with you — the days are long and warm.

We used your registration form to plan for food needs. If something has changed, text Laurel Mustafa at +1 404-518-1017.

Language & interpretation

Language justice is part of how we gather, not an add-on. Interpretation runs through the Summit days.

Interpretation equipment is handed out at registration each morning — 8:00 on Friday, 8:00 on Saturday — and collected at the end of each day. Please bring it back before you leave the building.

If you need language support at any point, ask at the Registration & Concierge Desk and we will do what we can.

The Summit Lounge

Need a moment to rest, reset, take medication, step away from conversation, or simply have some quiet? A participant lounge is available at UVI. Ask at the Registration & Concierge Desk and we will help you find it.

Accessibility & health

We want this gathering to be as accessible and supportive as it can be. If something has changed since you registered, tell us. We may not be able to meet every need, but we will respond with care and honesty.

Onsite, the Registration & Concierge Desk is where to go for general questions, directions, participant support, mobility and health needs, and help navigating the days. If you need immediate assistance, go to the desk or find a member of Summit staff.

Heat & air quality

St. Thomas is hot and humid this week. Drink water regularly through the day, even before you feel thirsty. Wear sun protection, a hat, and lightweight clothing — and take breaks when you need them.

A note about Saharan dust. Saharan dust can occasionally affect air quality in the Virgin Islands. If you have asthma, allergies, or another respiratory condition, keep your medications or inhalers accessible during outdoor activities.

If you are feeling unwell or need a break, visit the Registration & Concierge Desk or speak with a Summit team member.

Photography & video

Photography and filming take place during parts of the Summit. Participants who indicated during registration that they do not wish to be photographed or recorded have that preference reflected in our onsite process.

If your preference has changed, visit the Registration & Concierge Desk. You never need to give a reason.

Leaving early

If you need to go early because of a ferry, a flight, health, family, cost, or anything else, tell Laurel Mustafa at +1 404-518-1017 as soon as you can, so your ride is right.

You do not need to explain. We just need to know how to support your departure and make sure you get anything you'd otherwise miss.

Trip information

Your Summit Booklet

The schedule here gives you the shape of our time together. Your Summit Booklet carries the rest — the full program, session information, reflections, people, places, and the deeper framing for how and why we are gathering.

Bring it with you. Write in it. Fold pages. Add names. Capture questions. Let it travel with you.

Packing & trip list

The longer list, from before travel:

  • ID and travel documents
  • Medication and any inhaler you regularly use
  • Phone charger or power bank
  • Reef-safe sunscreen. Oxybenzone, octinoxate, and octocrylene are banned in the Virgin Islands. Check the ingredients and look for zinc oxide or titanium dioxide — "reef friendly" on the front of the bottle means nothing
  • A hat, and bug spray
  • A refillable water bottle
  • A swimsuit for Beach Day
  • Something for brief tropical showers
  • Light clothing, plus a shawl or light layer — air-conditioned rooms run cold
  • An outfit you feel good celebrating in for Saturday evening
Arrival & trip archive

Kept for reference. These days are behind us.

Thursday, September 10 — Grow. Light grab-and-go breakfast from 5:30 AM, transportation departing at 6:15 AM for the Mutual Aid & Brigade farm day, work sessions and lunch at the farms, and the Welcome Dinner at We Grow Food, Bordeaux Farmers' Market.

Our Village

Welcome to our Village

You were invited on purpose, and we prepared for your arrival.

For these days, we invite you to meet, learn, share, work, rest, eat, imagine, and build alongside people from across our islands and food systems.

This is not a conference you are attending. It is a Village you are part of.

About St. Thomas

St. Thomas is warm, hilly, coastal, and deeply connected to the sea. Over these days you move between farms, community spaces, UVI, and the beach, so come prepared for heat, sun, brief tropical showers, and a little movement.

As you travel through the island, remember that St. Thomas is not simply our event destination. It is home. Move with curiosity, respect, and care for the people and places receiving us.

We hope you make time to notice the land, the water, the food, the people, and the relationships that make this place what it is.
